For 40 years, Lloyd Bowers, Esq. has dedicated himself to the legal field, applying his good listening skills, empathy, and strong desire to help others to the courtroom. Today, he continues to excel as a partner at The Law Office of Wickersham & Bowers, a Daytona Beach-based firm he co-founded in 1995 that represents and counsels individuals, families, and businesses through a wide range of legal matters, from personal injury, estate planning, and wills to civil rights, probate and trust, and business litigation. As a lawyer, Mr. Bowers strives to always assist clients and work hard to meet their needs, presenting their cases to the judge and jury with confidence, eloquence, and emotion—skills that he has honed over the course of his life as a gifted member of the theater community.
Upon graduating from high school, Mr. Bowers attended the University of Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts in 1978. Through his training as an actor, he became an expert in listening well and performing, setting the stage for his interest in law. He shifted gears in this professional direction and ultimately obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982, subsequently being admitted to practice in the states of Louisiana, Texas, and later Florida. He became an attorney at Wiedemann & Wiedemann in New Orleans, where he was predominantly involved in maritime-related work and grew his skills as a litigator. Over the course of his time there, from 1982 to 1995, he was admitted to practice by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, and U.S. Supreme Court. After 13 years, he relocated to Florida in order to be closer to his parents, who had recently retired and moved there, and to work alongside Christopher W. Wickersham Sr., a renowned name in the field who offered him the position as partner.
Outside of his main roles, Mr. Bowers is the president of the Young Lawyers Division of the Louisiana State Bar Association—which he considers to be a career highlight—and proud member of the Florida Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, Volusia County Bar Association, Volusia County Civil Trial Lawyers Association, and the Health Delegates for the American Bar Association. Additionally, he has been an actor and singer with City Repertory Theatre—performing in such shows as “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”—a member of the city advisory board, and chairperson and district representative for the Volusia County Cultural Council. He’s also been actively involved in philanthropic work in arts-related community activities, through which he helped form the Peabody Auditorium Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for arts and culture within Daytona Beach. For this achievement, he was recognized with the Agency Champion Award from the American Philanthropy Association in 2015, one of several accolades he’s received throughout his career. Others include the Advocacy Award by the City of New Orleans in 2016 for laws he had passed 30 years prior and being named amongst “People to Watch in the World” by New Orleans Magazine.
